Is there a 43 car buying requirement to get the Corgi matte Batmobile?

Post by BatToys »

I read people have to buy 43 cars on the club list sequence before they can get the matte Batmobile. Have you heard that?

I'm not going to buy 43 cars I don't want just to get the matte Batmobile. I was under the impression we can skip right to the Matte Batmobile.

The Corgi Club ad says You are in full control. So it should be that I can pause membership until September October to get the matte Batmobile. But I can't find the button to pause membership. It says in the ad we can pause membership.

I did receive the snazzy tin can for the certificates of authenticity and the 1960s police car.

I asked them and am awaiting a reply.

They certainly don't make it simple in their explanation. Here's from the site-- my comments will follow;

You're in total control!
As a Corgi Model Club member you can change or SWAP your next model clicking the ‘Manage my membership’ button.
Note that if you do make a SWAP, your following order will automatically default to the next model in the sequence. For example, if you decide to make a SWAP to receive 003, the Buick Riveria, your next model would then be 004, the Lotus Climax.
If you haven’t already received the Lotus Climax this is fine but if you had previously bought it as a stand alone purchase you may not wish receive it for a second time. In such instances, you can SWAP again to receive a model you do want – so please check what your next model will be before it is shipped to you. We will send you an email REMINDER every month!
One time CATCH UP purchases are also possible – at membership prices! Simply click ‘Browse all products’ and choose the models you wish to add to your order.

You choose as many or as little from our collection as you wish. You control when you wish to receive the models, whether you wish to pause membership – or even if you wish to cancel. Join NOW and all models are at discounted Club membership prices!

Okay, back to me; I spent a little more time going through my membership page. By default they will send you the next car in the lineup-- so for example the Saint Car is #002-- I wanted that so I had them ship it with my initial order. My next order is for the #003 BUICK RIVIERA-- I don't want that so I hit MANAGE and I was able to delay that to Nov. If I click on BROWSE CATALOG it takes me to all 39 cars they've released to date-- and I can order any of those as my next shipment.

So, to answer your question-- yes if you don't take the time to control your membership you're going to get 42 cars you don't want before you get to the Batmobile, but if you hit MANAGE you can decide what you do and don't want. You don't have to buy ANY cars other than the initial one they offer with your $20 membership. There are 4-5 other cars they have that I would be interested in getting, they have a couple of sports cars and I like the Taxi-- so I'll pickup a few, but once we hit October my plan is to grab the Batmobiles and then cancel.

I'm pretty sure you can order multiples of each months car so I'll be ordering multiple Matt Batmobiles-- if someone wants one but doesn't want to go through the hassle of membership, I'll happily order one for you-- just cover the costs and its yours-- but be aware I can't make any guarantees so if you want to be ABSOLUTELY SURE of getting one I'd suggest going to the effort of getting a membership. I'm also not sure how many I can get so LIMIT 1 per Board Member I want to help collectors not scalpers-- and its first come first served. For those of you wondering, I'm not planning on flipping any of these, I'm going to make a sort of "store display" in my art studio like I did with the 50th anniversary Megos that came out, and prior to that I did it with the Aurora Batmobile re-releases. The only way I'll flip them is if I decide to downsize so that would be years from now.

I think I read in their replies that the Matte Batmobile is one per membership.

I'll try that with manage, thanks.

Of the cars they have listed or planned, these are possible choices:
1. Gold 007 car
2. Silver/Gray 007 car (this fall, although I have a boxed re-release of this)
3. Saint P1800S car (already received)
4. Avengers Mrs Peel Lotus Elan (not yet, but they have it in powder blue)
5. Black Beauty (not yet, but expect it sometime)
6. C2 Corvette 63 slit window
7. Chrysler Imperial Convertible (repaint from red to "beige") - Wayne version?
8. Batboat. https://13thdimension.com/corgi-teases- ... 6-batboat/

9. Batcopter
10. Police car (Gotham PD stand in) - Frank's idea.
11. C3 Corvette
12. 60's Porsche 911 (orange)
13. Monkeemobile (although I have a boxed re-release of this).

Would love to see some of the Mebetoys in their line-up. Always loved the Twinmill and Silhouette.

Any idea of anything else we may want as part of the club?

Great list Lou!-- I'd be totally in for the Black Beauty and the Monkeemobile!
I got my membership kit today-- tin for all the limited edition COAs, 1966 catalog reprint - some fun stuff in there! And my first car in the club series the 60s Police Car that looks a lot like the Andy Griffith Show car. I also ordered a Saint car and that arrived today. It's neat to display the boxes sideways which is how I remember them from my local store.

I have both the Silver and Gold Bond cars, looking at the catalog there are SO many of these old models I'd be interested in I'll likely stay with the club after the Batmobile.

That's fun news-- if they release it in its own box like it was done originally I'll be in for one (yep just one).
Dan mentions in his blog how complicated membership is-- and he's not wrong they don't make it easy.
