Stretching the screen or justifying it doesn't crop anything. it modifies the image slightly but not enough to distract. I only do this for shows/films made in FS or 1.33:1 ratios.

Of course Blu's can be played on a 4:3 television. Anything that was filmed pre-1953 is automatically a fullscreen presentation and almost all television shows except newer ones within the last decade are all FS ratios.

Im the opposite when it comes to music as well, I have a very extensive CD collection, most of which was originally released on LPs, But I prefer the CD/remasters, high resolution and clarity of the compact disc. I probably have less than 10 artists in my collection that were never pressed to LPs.

Check out below for screenshots of 4:3 TVs to an hdtv presentation of Dracula which is Fullscreen. Your'e missing out buddy. ;)

I was intrigued by this posting, so I poked around and found this short post:

As I mentioned in another thread I'm currently staying in the Minneapolis area. I'm here for medical treatment. I had my Gull bladder removed back in March and I have had all kinds of complications since. I'm still draining from my tubes, which isn't good. I'm due for another surgery on Aug. 12 Hopefully they will fix this problem. I Live in Guam, I own the Bewitched dvd set and I'm pretty sure the runtime is 26 minutes. I know, I know,... I said 27 minutes on another thread, I was guessing, I did not bring my Bewitched dvd set with me here to Minneapolis.

We had a discussion awhile back on episode run times. Commercials were shorter in the 60's than they are now, also I thought it was determined by an article I'd read that ABC in different to the other networks was able to not be mandated to the 5 minute of commercial time, they were able to get away with 3 minutes of commercial time, back in the 60's. I read this here on the boards, I'd heard this once before, this was something told to us by our instructor when I took that radio broadcasting course back in the early 80's. This is probably what got me to think that the 27 minutes of show time on ABC was correct, but I'm Not entirely sure. I do know 25 minutes of show time would be correct for shows CBS or NBC produced during that time period, but not ABC.

point no. 2. These bootleg episodes have a run-time of 25 minutes...and I KNOW there are missing elements(that's for another discussion) so that can't be right either...( I think I opened a Pandora's box when I brought this up earlier and if I did I profoundly apologize). Bottom line is that if 27 minutes seems to long, and 25 minutes is too short, the exact time must be 26 minutes and some odd seconds.

No, we are as yet to see anything above standard resolution. The sizzle reel simply gives an idea of the palette and cleanliness of the print at a standard resolution. If you've seen the movie at full 1920x1080p on Blu-Ray, you have a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of sharpness and detail.

Exactly; Some seem to be spoiled--they openly talk of "holding on" to illegal copies, and complain about the price, as though WB owes them anything. They (WB) are providing something that truly fits the "1st time ever" advertising headline, but that--it appears--is not enough. In no other property have we seen one of its most successful adaptations held up from "home video" release this long--not any other DC character, Marvel character--anything.

For all of the red tape and wrangling required to get to this point is nothing short of an event before the event. That should be appreciated, but no, we have complaints of price (there is the option to keep wallets closed), doubting the "uncut" matter (what else does "uncut" mean when specifically referring to vintage TV series?), and even the box art.

As many have noted, even if the Blu Ray is 100% as broadcast from 1966-68, there will be more complaints.

I guess muddy, butchered bootlegs, so-called "studio masters", torrents or recordings from 80's independent and/or cable channels is the superior option. Some need to think about that.

Oh you stretch the picture to fill the screen. I can tell its stretched and it looks awful...Ill take a pass on that..

If TV Manufacturers would make a 4x3 Fullscreen HDTV, then I would buy a blu ray player and watch the 4x3 blu ray on it..BUT thats never going to happen...I know back in early 2005-2007 several 4x3 HDTVs did get made, but I didnt buy one at the time. I wish I would have. I think Sony made a few different models like that. Shame they still dont make them..

here is the one I wish I had:(SONY 36" 4x3 HDTV)

Not that we need more commentary at this point, but here’s how I see it:

No question I intend to pre-order and have it in my hands as soon as possible when it is released. I have a very good bootleg copy, but I am quite tired of seeing a bug at the bottom of the screen, and also have had enough of the washed-out colors. I want Siren’s silver Greco-Roman gown to look as vibrant and shimmering as it did in 1967. I am very grateful the legal problems finally were hurdled. I am not complaining about the price.

That said, I certainly was quite underwhelmed by the extras, and I’ll explain why:

1. Warner’s hype contributed to the letdown. I fail to understand how the extras were announced at the same time that a panel featuring Adam, Burt and Julie was in progress, yet none of the extras even mention Burt or Julie. Now this is no offense to Adam, but it was Batman starring Adam West, NOT the Adam West Show. Yes, Adam was the biggest reason it became a phenomenon, but without Burt, Julie and the rest of the Big 4 villains, I don’t think it would have been the same show. They deserve their due.

2. Of the extras, the only one that interests me is Adam’s notes on the shooting script for the pilot. Why? BECAUSE THAT DEALS WITH THE MAKING OF THE SHOW ITSELF. I’m not as into commentaries as others on this board, because unless the actor is prodded by someone, it often devolves into meaningless chatter. But I would be interested in seeing new interviews with Adam, Burt and Julie.

And yes, I know the argument, and it’s a valid one, that Adam will say the ‘curious stirrings in my utility belt’ line about Julie for the 457,982nd time, and Burt again will talk about how dangerous the set was for him (as he apparently did on the panel that night). Still, if the right person is asking the right questions, the interviews could bear fruit. At least try. Burt has been quoted as saying he did something like this recently, so I can hope, anyway.

But I don’t care about collectors [no offense to the ones on this board], or about Adam’s celebrity buddies, or about a miniature Batmobile. If you’re going to give me extras, give me some meat and potatoes. You’ve certainly had more than enough time to ponder those potential extras, that’s for sure.

The one commentary I WOULD be interested in could have been provided by this man:

http://articles.latimes.com/2014/jan/18 ... n-20140119

I mean, the director who was responsible for the PILOT is alive and quite lucid. It’s mind-boggling that nobody thought to try to get Robert Butler to do a commentary.

3. I also don’t like the fact Batgirl and Yvonne are being given short shrift, and this is coming from someone who would have preferred Greenway went with Mary Ann Mobley for the role. Still, with that said, the fact is season 3, like it or not (and I know how many people hate it) doesn’t happen if not for Batgirl and Yvonne. And if the show went only two seasons and 26 fewer episodes, the MSRP certainly would be lower.

What I’m saying is this---like it or not Warner, the presence of Yvonne and Batgirl means more money in your pockets. I wonder if there’s bad blood because of the length of the negotiations with her for the rights to her likeness for the toys, figures, etc.

WOW! You know...I never thought about Robert Butler. I have to admit I didn't know he was still alive. I found it amazing that he also made TV history with Hill Street Blues. You're correct. He should have been contacted.

High C, I know you feel picked on here about the "extras" and all, but you're entitled to speak your mind. You do so in non-demanding way and that's fine. I chimed in early on, so most don't even know what I said. When a thread starts getting this long, few read from the beginning or in my case the middle. LOL.

I know Ralph is getting defensive about all this "negative" talk, but Ralph, let me try and explain from my prospective. I can't obviously speak for others. I am over-joyed and my head is still spinning about the series being released. I am glad you explained directly what and how the series would be. That was what I expected at 7:05 PM on this board on the 24th, but until you made your comment, I was still confused. In my case, it was just a matter of not having the info. For those of us that weren't there, we had no info other than the box set was featuring a strange 44 card ARTWORK set, a horrible Batmobile with bent attenna antlers and sawed off rocket tubes, and some books. I still feel if they wanted to do a mix of trading cards, they should have used the Bat Laff and Riddler Back series. Or hey, how about NEW photos. Make a real special trading card set.

As for the extras, I think a balance of old and new extras should have been provided. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to get the old stuff on other discs someday as companion pieces? I am a huge fan of the music, a KEY ingredient in the series, that to most people is just the Batman Theme. I thought the music was so important that surely it would be talked about in extras, or an isolated music option would be made available such as on the BluRay movie release.

So you see, we all have our hopes and dreams about what WE thought should have been included. In my case, I've had over 40 years to dream. I am hoping for a complete music soundtrack featuring all the cues from Riddle, May and yes, the lonely and forgotten Warren Barker who did the Marsha episodes. I try and stay focused and kind, but sometimes my passions get me carried away. No disrespect was ever intended on my part and if I did, I never meant to suck any of the joy out of the news for the release.

Boy, some "fans" are sure sucking the fun out of, what should be, a joyous time for people who love this series.
I hear ya, Ralph!

I've been staying quiet through most of this thread that I thought would be my favorite but has become one of my least favorite ones to read through. But as a moderator and admin, that's what I have to do.

I'm very excited about what's coming out. I couldn't agree more about the feeling of fun and celebration getting sucked out from some of the outraged tone of some folks have taken that their "dream set" has not been made after all.

Armchair quarterbacks will always exist whether it be Star Trek, Star Wars, Batman or any other fandom. And there will always be someone who will be like, "The last time somebody gave me a million dollars, it was on a GOLD platter and not a paper plate." This is not directed at anybody specifically and I actually understand the point many are trying to make and agree in many cases personally, "Oh, that would have been really cool." But I'm not digging the chastising and disdain "est" nature that I've been reading in a few too many posts. Critiquing is one thing, condemning is another and torches are just plain unnecessary. If your not happy, that's understood but please tone it down a bit. It really sours the party.

On another note for those who think that by stating their disdain here that the PTB will take notice. They won't and don't. If you really want to try and make a difference, write directly to the companies or people involved because your comments are not even noticed over here by them. They actually dodge these places during this period. I tell folks with some of the various companies about our forum and they're like, "Oh, you mean one of those places where 2% of the fandom complains in 90% of the posts." It's embarrassing when they're just about right in some of our cases.

The series is coming out finally on DVD and Blu-ray. I just want clear, uncut episodes and I could care less nowadays about the box it comes in, commentaries, extras or whatever other stuff it might come with because it will never be what I imagined and I've imagined a whole lot over the many, many years. Nobody putting this thing together has been going out of their way to try and get it wrong. When the dust clears, I just want to watch my favorite show.

But that's just me.

Let's just keep the peace and chill a bit.

I generally think you all do a great job with all the Bat-stuff you do, but I think some of your criticism is unfair. Most of the comments on this site have been fairly measured. I think almost everyone is delighted with the remastering and will get the official release of the series in some form as it best fits their budget. This is a discussion forum and it seems fair and normal for people to express what they like and what they do not. As it happened, the news about the remastering came out months ago so many of the comments are there. Perhaps you all have been reading the Amazon comments, a large number of which are really over the top, and decided to vent at the wrong audience. For myself, my only real gripe is that the press release was not available Thursday night after the comic con event, as I had been looking forward to finding out all about the set for weeks. I also have continue to wonder about how they get over three hours of bew special features out of this:

•Hanging with Batman - A true slice of life in the words of Adam West.
•Holy Memorabilia Batman! - A journey into the most sought-after collectibles through the eyes of three extraordinary collectors.
•Batmania Born!: Building the World of Batman - Explore the art and design behind the fiction.
•Bats of the Round Table - A candid conversation with Adam West and his celebrity friends, chatting all things Bat '66.
•Inventing Batman in the words of Adam West (episode 1 &2) - A rare treat for the fans as Adam discusses his script notes on bringing Batman to life in the first and second episodes.
•Na Na Na Batman! - Hollywood favorite's stars and producers recount their favorite Batman memories.

But that's just me. Nevertheless, I really appreciate this website an all you do.

Just put in my "pre-order" through Amazon. I'm thoroughly looking forward to this set. I'm only getting the dvd collection, as I don't have blue ray and my classic tv collections....Bewitched, Munsters, The adventures of Superman, Flinstones, Speed Racer, and Hawaii five Oh are all dvd.

I hope I didn't stir up anything on the boards....I have no complaints, just careful.

Thanks! But people can feel how they feel, I just hope that some of the more negative "est" type posts get toned down and be less condemning. Beyond that, if anybody has feedback on what I posted, please do it via PM since I didn't want to derail this thread much more.
