Those figures are really great! Wish Mattel would keep their line going.

Weird Korey, any input on my idea (in my own thread) to kit-bash a King Tut figure? I wonder if I also need to give milliput a try...

What paints should I use? I'm hoping for a little less gloss compared to some of yours. But I want to prevent paint from wearing off over time... Thoughts?

Yes, I got my licensed Surfing Joker from Amazon last year! Never saw him in the stores, though.

Cool! I tried to secure two extra 6" Mattel Catwomen a few years ago, with intentions to use them for Eartha and Batgirl customs (assuming Batgirl would never come - what relief when she did!), but due to an address mix-up, one of the spares was returned to Amazon by the Post Office and my order refunded. I do hope to create an Eartha some day...

Meanwhile, a 5" Harry Mudd head (from Playmates' "Star Trek") on a "Doctor Who" porcine alien's jumpsuit, makes a pretty good Colonel Gumm. I intend to add some height and girth with quickset putty, and make the jumpsuit pinker.

Remember that there are gloss, semi- and matt varnishes that can alter the appearances of gloss and matt acrylic paint applications. For cleanup, you can't beat the newer water-soluble acrylics over the tinned enamels.

I'm having great success with water-soluable Tamiya Color acrylic paints. Clean up is fast and you can also get Tamiya Color acrylic matte, gloss and semi-gloss transparent varnishes, so if something's too shiny you can easily tone it down and protect at the same time.

In the 70s and 80s, I used Airfix enamels in the little tins. You always needed a bottle of mineral turps on hand and sometimes the colours stayed sticky on Megos for years!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I agree with Therin that the Tamiya paints are excellent... usually my first choice. I also like the Citadel paints as well.

If you want less gloss and more protection, try using Testor's Dull-Cote spray as a topcoat. I use it on most of my custom figures. It helps simulate the "flat" look of store bought figs as well as protecting the paint job.

Another REALLY cool thing I've just discovered for customs are Jacquard Pearl Ex Pigments. You mix them with a clear medium and can get stunning pearlized effects.

The next 6 inch figure project I am interested in doing is the Penguin's "Leader Only" Pengy-Mobile- but it's a ways down the road...
