Just got out of The Batman and have to say that I really enjoyed it. It was my favorite movie version of Batman so far.
I hope more of you decide to watch it. It's not the "Saw" of comic book movies as being reported. It's long and dark but the cinematography and sound is top notch.

The Batmobile had a cool entrance. Loved how you can hear Batmans boots moving about. Made him feel imposing.

Go see it.

My son and I just got in from the midnight showing. It’s everything you’d expect from seeing the trailers. Back in 2008, I saw “The Dark Knight” on opening night and was totally blown away because it was better than anticipated. This one didn’t leave me with that feeling. I wish it had because that was great but, no.

I didn’t give this movie a fair chance because the theater was as loud as a Metallica concert during the fight scenes. I put ear plugs in to preserve what hearing I’ve got left. As a result, I couldn’t hear the dialogue. The sound was just messed up. I might give it another chance when it comes out on Blu ray so I can level the volume or at least keep adjusting it. If you make it thru all 3 hrs of that movie without ear plugs, you’re gonna need to start shopping for a hearing aid!

The movie is so far removed from the Adam West TV show, it’s almost a completely different character. This movie just didn’t work for me. Maybe seeing skinny out of shape actors doing spinning back kicks and beating up 10 guys single handedly has just gotten old.

I look forward to hearing what you guys think of it.

Hi Jimmyvale. I get where You are coming from as regards the volume problem. It's not just "Batman" that has that problem. "King Kong V Godzilla" also had that problem. The loud sound terrified my Grandson who has a bit of autism. When I complained to the management, I was told that they had been ordered NOT to mess with the sound. That's a real shame because I won't go to any more movies and will wait until it is released for home viewing.
Of course, it isn't AW's Batman. Sadly, times have changed, and the "Age of Aquarius" has long since changed into the Age of Darkness. Maybe with the current world problems, we will see a much-needed return to more cheerful entertainment, but, somehow, I doubt it.

I've been in super loud theaters too and stuck paper napkins in my ears. My theater wasn't bad at all and the sound really stood out to me.
No this is not 66 Batman but it's also not Burtons or Nolans. The Batman character arc in this really stands out. I don't think it's spoiling anything to say he goes from dark and scary into something more in line with Jim Lee's Batman. The sequels will be even closer to the comic source. I'm liking it more and more as I think on it.

I don’t think any city in America is as bad as what they depicted. The subway basically looked like a haunted house. (I know, it’s a movie and not realistic). It’s probably the fact that I just don’t like to see my country depicted in front of the whole world as a corrupted hell hole when it is not. Burton made Gotham look bad but you could tell it was fantasy.

And I had the hearing protection in so I didn’t make out all of it but I did hear catwoman saying that really popular two word political phrase that begins with the letters W. P. Yeah - ok, enough already….that took the fun out of it for me.

To boot, Pattinson looked ridiculously sickly. Like a heroin addict. I’m pretty sure that scene where they showed his scarred back was a body double. I thought it was cool to see Bruce training in “Batman Begins” and BvS and that was completely missing because Pattinson didn’t train for the role. Like him or hate him, Affleck at least looked the part and obviously had been working out. Bale too which helped with the suspension of disbelief.

I might give it another chance but I kind of doubt it.

Yes - I’ve done that too when I didn’t have my earplugs with me. To make them most effective, go to the bathroom sink and get them wet. Squeeze out the excess water and they’ll seal out the sound better. If they’re not in just right I think it actually makes it worse.

This is an effort to prevent the annoying phenomenon that occurs when you leave the theater, get in your car, and you realize your ears are ringing like a symphony orchestra. That can’t be good for ya….

I agree with Randy on this one. References almost every version of Batman. I would love to hear more options of board members once they see it.

I think we're going on Monday evening. I'm trying to be as open-minded as possible, I like Matt's work on the whole.

References to the show I noticed:
- A bust (possibly Shakespeare, wasn’t sure) in the Wayne penthouse
- A black telephone similar to the Batphone with multiple lines extensions
- A older female housekeeper similar to Aunt Harriet
- Batman running down a building like the wall climb

It’s definitely a Shakespeare bust—the highlight of the movie for me. I did enjoy the film. It’s a complicated and grim story but it held my interest. I liked the Batman-Catwoman relationship and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon is outstanding. The Bat cowl is also very well done. It does fall short in characterization, so the supposed emotional scene between Alfred and Bruce doesn’t really hit home since their relationship isn’t developed enough. And, without question, there is imagery that will likely live in cinema history forever.

Just a friendly heads up. Let's ease off on possible spoilers and Easter eggs at his time. Let people who are going to see it "experience it" without foreknowledge of such things. The pleasant surprises and nods.

After a month or so, folks can then compare those kind of notes.
Thanks.
