Knowing how Heritage Auctions have been going-- I'm not the least bit surprised.

Re: Captain Action Green Hornet MIB auction shocking bid
I remember the GH/Captain Action costume easily passing $2000 in the 1990s at some collectibles and comic conventions, so its not surprising that it goes for so much in 2024. If someone gifted it to me, I would never turn it down, but buying it? Nahh. I'd be satisfied with a reproduction of CA/GH for display purposes. I have the Playing Mantis costume set, and its really nice, but it does not compare to the packaging of the original.

As a lifelong Golden Age Comic Collector -- this is the market-- sometime around 1985 someone offered a major collector friend a Detective Comics #27 (first Batman) in nice shape for $5k-- he hemmed and hawed about it-- offered the deal to me if the friend passed, but in 1985 I couldn't have come up with $5k if my life depended on it. I remember at the time all of us saying $5k might be the highest it would ever go for.
In March a copy in 6.5 condition sold for $1.8 million. If I put $5k in the bank in 1985 it would have a value nowhere near that price even with an aggressive interest rate. Collectibles can be a good investment. Will this Green Hornet suit be worth $80k in 30 more years? There are plenty of naysayers who would say "never" and that's how the people who are willing to risk it make bank.

Yes, when I was in high school back in the late 70s I had an opportunity to buy a Golden Age comic book for $100. It was in a little booth at a flea market in Losantiville, Ohio. I didn’t have $100, but my parents offered to stake me and I reluctantly turned them down because I didn’t want them to be out that much expense. It was Captain America #1.
I remember reading an ad in The Comics Buyer’s Guide in the 1980s from a self-publishing duo in Northampton, MA. They were selling the first three back issues of a comic book for two or three dollars each (maybe three dollars for the first issue). I said to myself: “This is the most ridiculous concept for a comic book I have ever heard of! This will never take off.”
The title: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

I got one of the re-releases at a comic book store in CT on Free Comic Book day for $24.95. No Kato, though.
