Marx style 3D figures

Post by rsaffle »

Created a Robin to go with my Batman. Robin required much more sculpting to get decent results, but Im getting better at it.

These are 5 3/4" tall. The mini Batman is 3" tall. I had fun painting them with a brush and acrylics, but I like them unpainted too. Thinking about Hornet and Kato next or maybe Gordon and O'Hara since i have good face sculpts already. Probably make another Batman in solid blue also.

Need to put a base on mini Bats so he will stand better.

PM me if your interested in them.

Like going back in time, peering over the counter at Frank’s delicatessen and seeing those fun toys on the shelves, like the Marx army men, the parachuting paratrooper, troll dolls, Batman gum cards, those miniature slingshot flying airplanes, etc.

Very marketable, Randy! Has a nostalgic feel that just connects to anyone who lived through the 1960s as a kid.

Thanks guys! I'm working on a Batgirl and I am happy to say that my sculpting skills are growing fairly rapidly. I don't have full control yet but it's getting easier.

I'm trying my hand at designing a Mego style Black Beauty too. It's a challenge to design a car that looks like the other Mego cars but has a roof and a backseat and is about the same size as the Batmobile Mego. I'm trying to make the whole roof come off to place the figures in. I've had this idea for some time, but my skills are getting closer to being able to pull it off.

I dont even have Hornet Megos either....yet! 😆

Your doing Great Randy, I've been thnking of doing Marx style Batman and Superman figures to add to my collection for quiet some time. Just to many projects right now, so they are on a long bucket list ...lol. I was thinking of printing them on my Elegoo FDM printer, with all the bright cool colors of filament they make, I could really make them look like the MARX figures. I have all the Marvel, Universal Monster, Man From UNCLE and Nutty Mads they made. They never did a Dracula though, thought about that as well.
i don't know if this bit of trivia was brought out: The guys that sculpted the original MARX figure were the same sculptors that did most the AURORA model kits. That is why most of the Universal figures resemble the kits as well as the Man From UNCLE, and the comic book poses for the Marvel figures.
Love your Batgirl Sculpt, that is really coming along nicely. Keep up the Good work. :D

I did not know this. It makes sense in how they looked now. Appreciate your comments. These are fun to make.

Okay... Batgirl has me really jazzed now. ( I'm not the only boy to ever feel that way. Lol) These are fun to make. Already got Kato done overnight and half of the Hornet. Lol I'm getting better with each one. Probably go back at Batman and resculpt his head and add a few details.

For all the non 3d printers out there, I included a shot of one with the "tree" supports the program adds to create overhangs. The are light weight and snap off the print.

PM me if you are interested. I finally found something that people may want that doesn't require a bunch of post production work from me.

Love the Batgirl one! It's such a complex set of shapes to begin with. Turned out wonderful. The purple filament is a nice solid to go with. I wonder what she would look like if done in a purple silk?

Thanks Scott!

There are a ton of great filament colors that I typically don't ever use. For my props, I tend to use all matte colors because they don't show the layer lines as much and the detail reads better and most of the time I'm sanding and painting them anyway.

These figures are begging me to play around though and order some shiny and funky colors. I've seen a color changing purple that would be fun.
