Didn't they use dozens of suits over the three seasons? I think that maybe why so many people and places can claim to own a original bat suit.

I'm sure they went through plenty of tights, shorts and gloves during the run of the show, but not as many capes, cowls , boots and belts.
Those items take plenty of time and money to create and I think there were far fewer made than the average person would imagine.

The notion that dozens of anything are made for TV productions is a myth but it's what the production wants you to think and the fans want to believe .

Before the internet and boards like this, deals were made thinking they were getting show pieces when in reality they were forgeries.

Chuck is 100% on the money.
We spent a good amount of time years ago trying to surmise how many cowls there were in the series, and using face markings as a guide doesn't work because often shells were recovered with new fabric and face paint. We used a small dent in one of the shells to confirm that.

I'm not saying it's the case with this show, but in the days before the Internet show stars would often sell "original" props from the shows they were on, sometimes multiple copies of the same item which is extremely unlikely. Having a well done replica once owned by a star increases it's price, but not it's value if that prop is claimed to be original, but it is only a fan made prop.

Performers on shows were lucky to get even one item from a show as they left, never mind full sets or multiples. The costumes and props belonged to the studios.

We know with BATMAN Adam left with at least one cowl, which was recovered for the NBC specials in 1979 without the benefit of having pictures taken of it first. This is why the face markings were wrong and the neck too short, creating the Gilman cowl. If I'm not mistaken that was the shell that had the dent in it, and that cowl is in the hands of a collector.

Adams subsequent appearances on talk and interviews in which a cowl was displayed with him was from then on done by either Wally, Chuck or Ken, at least that's how they've looked to me. But did Adam leave the show with more than one cowl?

That's a question for Mr. West.
