As far as the poll goes, I don't think I can reduce my feelings or opinions on the matter to the simple set of binary options offered. :( (I think, because of the way the options are presented, it may represent "push polling". The results won't be valid, because the true range of answers isn't represented. Probably I'm taking it too seriously. )

While I'm prepared to accept the anecdotal evidence given in the original post, I think Yellow Oval's observations come closer to the mark. Many at DC apparently have nothing against the 66 show, and may even be fans. DC the publisher, however, now has a very long history of keeping Batman and their other characters more on the Darker and Edgier end of the scale. They would have to do a great deal to convince me that the Batman 66 comic is more than just a novelty act, albeit a welcome one. I think this current series is a lot like the BTAS comics they used to publish, or the Tiny Titans series. Nice stuff, closer in tone to what I would like comics to be, but hardly a major change of direction from the long, tired slog through a grim and depressing DC universe that they've been making now for decades. :( This current series would have to sell like mad, for an extended period, to begin to convince them that most readers would welcome material which is lighter in tone. I assume they also need to keep the mainstream, monthly characters pretty much in line with what would work (= sell tickets) in a successful film venture. Batman is a tough-guy antihero now, and a ninja, to much of the public. Our polite, personable, honest, well-intentioned, good citizen Batman doesn't have the mean streak that audiences seem to want from the character. I don't think they can steer the mainstream Bat franchise, much less the DC universe as a whole, back in our direction at this point. Even if many at the offices might actively enjoy the old 66 series or the lighter-toned comics of the Silver and Bronze ages. I fear those days ended along with the CCA and broader distribution of comics.

Nonetheless, I am excited about this current comic. Pretty cool stuff. I hope it is successful. :D

I suppose I can accept that DC as an institution doesn't *hate* "our" Batman, and that many individuals who are or have been part of DC may actually love it. DC itself doesn't love our version. They have to favor what will sell best, and it seems unlikely that our Batman could have broader cultural appeal these days than the dark post-Miller character.

In the NYPost interview, writer Jeff Parker specifically mentions that he is working on a story featuring Siren.
Thank you so much for the great news!

Here's the quote from artist Jonathan Case in the New York Post:

***
The current story I'm on has the Siren, who controls men's minds, and gives me lots of fun psychedelic drawing opportunities.
***
Obviously, I'm quite biased, but I think the Siren lends herself very well to a comic book, given her unique abilities. Plus, there are limitations in live action (such as hiring a lot of extras that are under her spell) that shouldn't apply here. I will be fascinated to see what they do with her.

Thanks again for sharing this!

Siren's eventual appearance also is mentioned on DC's website:

It says 'The Siren ruins Bruce Wayne's date!' ;)
'I thought Siren was perfect for Joan.'--Stanley Ralph Ross, writer of 'The Wail of the Siren'

My hobbies include gazing at the Siren and doing her bidding, evil or otherwise.

'She had a devastating, hypnotic effect on all the men.'--A schoolmate describing Joan Collins at age 17

I loved it. Yes, the writers didn't get the dialogue "spot on", but it was close enough for me to enjoy the read. I also loved the technology that DC2 incorporates into the digital comic. The swiping as you read makes it so much more enjoyable. It's almost like a moving comic book.

I will be picking up the hard copies as well as getting each digital copy.
