Re: Not excited AT ALL about upcoming film "The Batman"
I confess, I’m probably going to see the new movie with the little vampire guy from “Twilight” after all. I own every Batman serial, every episode of the TV show, and all the movies. I’ve seen everything so many times I can’t re-watch and enjoy many of them anymore. I’m sure I’m not alone. Expectations are pretty low but I’ll give it a chance.
I read a bit of “The Caped Crusade”, thanks for the link. When I was a kid, DC released the “1st Edition” reprints. The reprint of DC #27 came along at just the right time for me, I was fascinated with how “The Bat-Man” looked back then!

My reprint was lost when I “grew up” in my ‘20s and ‘30s. I read in “The Caped Crusade” excerpt that DC re-colors Batman’s original purple gloves blue. That’s terrible! He had purple gloves in the beginning, what the heck?!?!!???
Does anybody know where I could get a proper reprint of DC#27, complete with purple gloves and everything? Not as a collectors item, just to have and read as intended!

I can't remember if the gloves were recolored blue in that tabloid or not. Mine is tucked away so deep I don't know what it might take to locate it.
Lately, DC's been reprinting certain of those tabloid-sized "Limited Collector's Editions" (Superman vs Muhammad Ali, Superman vs Shazam, Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes) in hardcover, and just last year they reprinted New Fun Comics #1, the first DC comic, for which they resurrected the nearly 50-year-old "Famous First Edition" trade dress (even though it wasn't part of that series originally), which is pretty cool. All of which is to say, it may be possible Detective #27 will be getting a reprint at some point in the same tabloid format you enjoyed as a kid, and if so maybe they'll be more careful about the glove color.
There was also a "Millenium Edition" reprint in (as the name would suggest) 2000 that was printed in the size of a modern comic and included all the stories (not just Batman). Not sure how hard that is to find, but a cursory eBay search turned up one listing for $149, which is IMHO ridiculous. Honestly, I'm not sure what color the gloves were in that one, either.
If all you want is the Batman story, it's been reprinted many, many times, though usually with the blue gloves. In fact, a great number of those projects were flawed beyond the gloves; they recycled a 60s-era reprinting wherein a knife that was originally shown protruding from the back of a murder victim (and then, in his son's hand) was erased from the artwork entirely. Even the Batman Archives repeated this error (and the blue gloves), and it's only been corrected in fairly recent reprintings. One of the nicer ones appeared in the coffee table volume, Batman: The Definitive History of the Dark Knight In Comics, Film and Beyond, where the cover and Batman story from Detective #27 are treated as an "insert," reprinted at Golden Age comic size, with the knife where it's supposed to be and the gloves the right color. But it's just the Batman story, and you wouldn't be able to take it out without damaging the book it's glued into.

You can get that first edition in reader copy shape for about $20-$25 I'd suggest my friends at superworldcomics.com and see if they can help. Pretty sure they were purple in the 1974 treasury.

It's not my Batman from the tv show or the comics I remember but I do have 9 tickets reserved for opening night and I'm excited to go to an actual theater with my family.
I like Chris Nolans vision of Batman enough and really enjoyed what Matt Reeves did with the Ape movies so I have my hopes up for atleast a well written and directed movie, even if it's not "my Batman".
The tv show will be well represented on my tshirt that night.

Still not interested in the movie, but thought I'd mention Google is running a fun tie-in to promote it.
If you use Google's search engine to look for "Bruce Wayne," "Bat-Signal" or "Gotham City," you'll get an animated gif of a swiveling bat-signal, and clicking on that gets you a fun surprise.

I just finished "The Caped Crusade & The Rise Of Nerd Culture" right before I started "!4 Miles to Gotham City".
Great read, lots of info and analysis of Batman over the years. I highly recommend them both.

After seeing the trailer, that stupid Dracula looking “ehmmm...collar” around the bottom of the cowl, and a car that looks more like a 67 Camaro, and not a batmobile, I have really lost complete interest in what WB and DC has done to this character. I didn’t see any of the Justice League and I won’t waste time or money on this one either. Pass for me.
Re: Not excited AT ALL about upcoming film "The Batman"
Nahhh. I've had it with grim and gritty. I need some Adam West in my life. Not more of the dark, brooding, and violent version. We've seen this story several time already, and from I've heard from the soundtrack, there's nothing heroic in it. And as for Selina Kyle, well she's no Julie Newmar. Is it so hard for Hollywood to channel Adam, Julie, Bart, and others for their superhero films?

They're not trying to, and why would they? The '66 series is not viewed as a legitimate adaptation of the comic (as in serious). It does not matter how many people at DC/WB or anyone else has fond feelings toward the Dozier series, that will never be used as the basis of serious movie adaptations.

Let's all just be glad that we DO have the AW/BW movie and just not worry about the rest.
