Foam Batgirl Batarang

Post by rickrickrick »

Well, here's another quickie I dashed off.

How do you minimize damage to property and person when your 6 year old daughter wants to crash around the house acting like Batgirl? Make a foam batarang, of course!
foambatarang.jpg
Made a quick sketch based on the prop from the show, worked up a template, and cut it out of that craft foam you buy at Michaels or A.C.Moore. Then laminated the layers together with contact cement and rounded off the edges a bit with a dremel sanding drum. Ta da! Instant less-lethal projectile!

THESE should be marketed!

Cheers!

Great idea (and construction)! I may have to recreate your project for my growing Batgirl.

Very nice. Great idea. I'll be constructing a Batman one.

???Did Batgirl ever use a Batgirlarang? If so, what episode?

Without looking, I think she had one in the Shame episode when she and Robin were poised to take down Shame's henchpeople at the showdown.

Any other episodes? I admit to seeing Season 3 only once, except for a few episodes (Shame and Londinium) that got repeated before this last run-through on MeTV.

That is really solid work. You have the play toy design sensibility to be sure. I imagine if Nerf wanted to produce playable replicals of hand props, I cannot imagine anything leading to a different design conclusion than your version.

Thanks for the kind comments, all. The most gratifying thing is that she's playing with it so much!

PS - BTW, Batgirl definitely uses a batarang in an episode I just watched tonight - the second part of the third season Shame episode. She and Robin tie up Shame's gang with ropes tied to batarangs. But you barely see it for a microsecond.

I thought she used it in Ring Around the Riddler but in this clip I found, it looks like it is just rope

Just two layers laminated together. Then there are the front and back body parts, and the wing lines. So the thickest parts are four layers thick.
