TO THE BATPOLES podcast -- Egghead's debut

Post by bat-rss »

Apologies, I haven't really been on the ball lately and this episode came out a week ago, but in case you missed it...

Vincent Price is great! Is Egghead? Is the character of Chief Screaming Chicken parody, racism, or a bit of both? Also, we talk about the many cameos, familiar faces/voices, and intertextuality in this arc!

I enjoyed Egghead in the 1st incarnation...I wish he would have been the super-intelligent criminal when he returned in the third season instead of the henpecked fiancé of Olga.

These episodes will always be favorites of mine for another reason. I first became a Batman fan watching reruns of the show when I was four or five. After that station quit showing Batman, no one else in my area ever reran it again until I was 11....and that station showed it at noon while I was in school, so I didn't get to see it. The Egghead episodes aired over the Thanksgiving holiday and were the first episodes I had gotten to see in years. I still remember all the episodes that aired over the Christmas break as well.

That's a great memory! But what on earth possessed the station to show it while kids were in school?! Sure, adults enjoy it, too, but...

I don't know why they showed Batman at that time of day...That was back before VCRs became so common, so I couldn't tape it either. After that summer, when that station took off Batman, I didn't get to see it again until my senior year of high school, when Batman was in reruns due to the 1989 movie. I got to tape it, then.
