Pure Arts Batman & Robin dioramas

Post by danbar »

Just saw these up for pre-order. Expected by 4th quarter 2025. A 1/8 scale statue of Batman and Robin in action poses. And a 1/4 scale of B&R in iconic poses. The 1/4 scale statue features fabric costumes and Robin has synthetic hair, and is a limited edition of 650. Saw them on BBTS. You can also order direct from Pure Arts.

Cool to see something in these scales. But I really hope they re-sculpt Robin's expression on the 1/4 figure for the final product.

It’s like they went with two extremes, goofy dancing action pose and serious tough guy poses. Robin’s expression feels very out of character. But let’s talk about the bizarre flattened batmobile they’re standing on. How dare they.

Agreed! These are kind of all over the place, these dioramas definitely have a "sculpted from memory" feel to me

On the plus side, looking at the second one, i'm sure our friend Alex Zsolt will be thrilled that they finally made a statue of him! ;)

The top poses are directly from existing photographs, the Batman one is everywhere, the Robin is from the Trading cards, Riddler backs I believe

Spot on here fellas-- tough guys vs dancing guys-- I hate the flattened Batmobile.
I'd probably get the ¼ one if Robin wasn't there, but I appreciate that they saved me $900 by having him.

The 1/8 dramatic pose one should be the larger one.

39 BATMAN.jpg
Same company is doing a 1939 BAT MAN statue-- as an avowed lover of the original version of Batman this should be in my wheel house but like the Robin sculpture above it's off-- the cowl is wrong, I don't like how the cape is just flat under the neck and the emblem is wrong.

To all you lurkers who are thinking we are all such negative Nellies with these new products I would say this; If you like it-- I'm happy for you-- after all I'm the lone guy here buying the '66 McFarlane Batman statue because it reminds me of Adam's costume from car shows-- I think for a lot of us we've gotten to an age where we can afford a lot but we can also afford to be uber picky, because you can only own so much stuff.

But never let our whining derail your enthusiasm for something-- chime in! Lurking is no fun.

Sometimes I get the feeling that whoever is designing products feels like he or she can do better than the original. But all we want is the original.

If I could give that one piece of advice to the makers of these products: “Make it look like how it is, not how you think it should be.”

At Disney, I was in a meeting that was pitching crazy ideas for Winnie the Pooh and the art director in charge of Pooh stood up and said firmly , "Can we just draw him the way Walt approved it?" . Fortunately, they listened to him.

Agreed!!! Alex will be thrilled! We should also contact Al Bigley that they are making a "39 Bat-Figure of him as well!

I truly think that’s what’s been going on with some of the sculpts. They’re seeing other people dressed as Batman, like Scott, etc. and think it’s Adam. Or, seeing Julie AND Lee as Catwoman and sculpt an amalgam. The sculptors rely on what they see online because they don’t know the show.

We have all seen Clickbait articles featuring board members in the photos on stories about the 1966 TV show. To those who don’t know, the people in the photos ARE Batman, Robin, Batgirl… .

It does look like an Al Bigley take on the '39 costume-- and I see Scott in the Batman piece! Amazing! I don't know why they followed Hot Toys on the floppy Batman ears, which only appeared in the film when the Cowl was wet.

Far too many inaccuracies with the design of the "standing" duo. One, I know where they're getting the Robin facial expression from, but the designer is not--apparently--one who can capture the essence of the source (and if they screwed up with Robin, I would not buy this line). Two, Batman has the extra-wide midsection ("dad bod"), and it looks like he's wearing drooping boxers. Hard pass on this one.

Adam didn’t really cross his arms like that. When he would ponder clues in Gordon’s office, he held his wrists higher with his index fingers extended. That would’ve meant his forearms would cover the bat emblem on his chest, but it’s such a part of West’s attitude.
