What focal length did the cameras use on the actors?
JazzInc would like to know the focal length of the camera used on the actors so they can judge how accurate to sculpt Julie Newmar.
Anyone here know?

Re: What focal length did the cameras use on the actors?
Fun question! This really is where my professional life and fandom intersect perfectly...
The show (and movie) were shot mostly on Arriflex 35mm cameras. You're seeing 58mm for a TON of wide to mid-coverage and likely up to 135mm for the type of hard edge closeups we saw particularly in Season 1. We see less of the tighter framings as the show goes on because of the time it takes to change lenses and reframe before being able to reset and go again. If you're getting "less" in the frame, you're doing more coverage over all and more shots = more time and more $$$. If our friend High C was still with us, this is where I would wheel out his "DOUGHzier" joke...
I know in the movie, (because they were cropping the 35mm frame down from the 3:2 aspect ratio to 1.85:1 for widescreen theatrical), Howard Schwartz talked about being able to shoot even wider than they normally would have on the series, there are a lot of scenes where we're seeing 18mm and even some 9.5mm. Which, side note, is insanely impressively wide for the optics of the day, given the very minimal distortions at the edges of the frame.
All of this being said, the unit stills photography (which i'm hoping is also within the reference materials that Joost's sculptor is using) albeit also shot on 35mm film, is a different ball of wax as far as the look and feel that the Single Lens Reflex cameras of the day created.
I'm not on Facebook, but if you're in touch with Joost directly, please feel free to give him my email address and i'd be happy to chat with him further about the shooting of the show. [ ben.bentley@live.com ]
