Dates of screen tests?

Post by bat-rss »

Does anyone know the dates of the West/Ward and Waggoner/Deyell screen tests? Someone asked me, and I realized I don't seem to have any info on that. I could only guess late summer of '65...

Aha! I found the answer. "Batman: A Celebration of the Classic TV Series" by Bob Garcia and Joe Desris pinpoints it as September 10, 1965. I regard this book as the best and most nearly error-free book on the series. I don't know how Garcia and Desris got this info, but it makes sense since we know from a cast sheet for the pilot that it was shot Oct 20-Nov 4. Six weeks seems like a reasonable amount of time between screen tests and actual shooting...

The source for the info may have been a letter that William Dozier sent Adam West, dated Sep. 13 '65 (Monday), in which he discusses the screen tests, which he indicates were made on the just-passed "Friday."

Thanks. I'll have to see if I can find that in my unorganized mess of PDFs!
